due to the fact that 3 x 3 = 9, it would mean that 3/9 would be the same as 1/3. the equation tells us that three can go into 9 three times, which is the same as saying that 1/3 is equal to 3/9. this is proved because if you multiply 3/9 by 3, you will get 1 which tells us that 3/9 does in fact equal 1/3.
