To get the inverse of a function, first write the function as a function of y in terms of x... so y = 1/4x - 12.. Now switch the variables as such:

x = [tex] \frac{1}{4} y - 12[/tex] we now need to solve this equation for "y"
x - 12 = [tex] \frac{1}{4} y[/tex]
4(x -12) = y
8x - 48 = y

So y = 8x - 48 is the inverse of your function:  Can also be written as:
 [tex] f^{-1}(x) = 8x -48 [/tex]
