The correct answer is Thomas Jefferson

The election of 1800 quickly turned into a series of personal attacks that were not about politics. Jefferson's opponents believed that he was a supporter of the Jacobins and their terror and they believed that if he became the president he would implement similar policies in the United States, which didn't happen after he became the president.
