The answer is -9. Beware of the negative numbers.

think of it as
you have -6 dollars you spend 3 more dollars now you have -9 dollars. 
the "()" is kind of just to throw you off since it means you do that number first. With that in mind -3 + -6 and -6 + -3 both equal -9
