how much does she have so far in total??

2+ 3/5 is

2+[tex] \frac{3}{5} [/tex]=[tex] 2\frac{3}{5} [/tex]

she needs 3, so she needs

3-[tex] 2\frac{3}{5} [/tex] more

let's change the 3 into a mixed number with a denominator of 5: [tex] 2\frac{5}{5} [/tex]

 [tex] 2\frac{5}{5} [/tex]-[tex] 2\frac{3}{5} [/tex]=[tex] \frac{2}{5} [/tex]

so [tex]\frac{2}{5} [/tex] is the answer
