I think she used the fact that it's fairly easy to multiply 5 by 30: it's 150 (and 188 is bigger than this, so the actual result must be bigger than 30) and it's also easy to multiply 5 by 40: it's 200 (and 188 is smaller than this so the actual result must be smaller bigger than 40) : so 188 must be somewhere in between
