From what I understand, a law is a specific statement which is assumed by experiment to be correct, whereas a theory is an entire body of knowledge regarding a specific topic, ie the law of conservation of energy is a specific fact assumed through observation but the theory of evolution is an entire body of knowledge regarding the behavior of life.
