Synthesise food. Producers are plants who can synthesize food with the help of sunlight and chlorophyll. Plants convert carbondioxide to carbohydrate through a process called photosynthesis. A fruit fly cannot synthesize food because it lacks chlorophyll. They depend upon plants for food and hence known as consumer.
