x is the base
m and m are powers

mulitplying
[tex](x^m)(x^n)=x^{m+n}[/tex]
simply add the powers

dividing
[tex]\frac{x^m}{x^n}=x^{m-n}[/tex]
subtract the power on the bottom from the power on top

raising a power
[tex](x^m)^n=x^{mn}[/tex]
multiply the powers
