Ethos is ethical, pathos is a quality that evokes pity or sadness, and logos is the appeal of logic. All of these appeal to either your ethical side, emotional side, or to your logic. They relate to rhetoric because they ar three things the author can use to appeal to you and sway your opinion to their side.
