John Locke’s concept of rights belonging to the people exercised the greatest influence on this writer's, Thomas Jefferson's Declaration of Independence.
Thomas Jefferson, along with other lesser known people, wrote the Declaration of Independence in order to free America from the reign of its mother country, Britain. He stated that "all men are created equal," and thus should have their absolute freedoms, which is something he took from John Locke's philosophy.
