What is the difference between embolus and thrombus

An embolus is anything which travels through the blood vessels until it reaches a vessel that is too small to let it pass through, and this causes the blood flow to stop.    Basically, a thrombus is the blood clot itself, and the embolus is a fraction of the blood clot which travels through the blood vessels.
