2x + y = 6 (1)

y = x - 6 (2)

Substituting y in equation (1)

2x + x - 6 = 6

3x - 6 = 6 Isolating 3x

3x = 6 + 6

3x = 12 Isolating x

x = 12/3 = 4

If x is 4 , then y is equal to -2 ( from equation (2) y)
