Answer is

They are very similar. Solving a linear equation gives us an ordered pair, while solving a linear inequality gives us a region, either above or below the curve.

The math is the same except In a linear equation, switching the sides does not have any effect on the equal sign.

In a linear inequality, switching sides brings in an automatic switch in signs, from greater than to less than and vice versa. This is also the case when both sides of the inequality is multiplied or divided by a negative number.
