Disagreement causes people to look for other options, and to try to find something to agree about. Also, disagreement has had some negative affects such as people disagreeing on religion. This has separated many people changing how the nation functions.
Challenges on slavery and racism helped shape the nation into created the Civil War Amendments. These amendments helped give Black men the right to vote and freedom. However, it also inspired more groups to fight for their rights (womens suffrage movement).
