Humans and mice both have an estimated 30,000 genes. Why aren’t they more alike?

One of the contrasts is that humans lack a large portion of the G protein-coupled receptors on the insulin-producing beta-cells that mice have and for which multiple pills are produced. Of notice, some of the receptors existed just only found in mice and others just in humans.

I’m not too sure, but maybe there is a similar amount of genes, but they code for different types of proteins, which result in a different genotype and phenotype
