for ax²+bx+c=0
x=[tex] \frac{-b+/- \sqrt{b^2-4ac} }{2a} [/tex]

so

16x
²+8x+1=0
a=16
b=8
c=1

x=[tex] \frac{-(8)+/- \sqrt{(8)^2-4(16)(1)} }{2(16)} [/tex]
x=[tex] \frac{-8+/- \sqrt{64-64} }{32} [/tex]
x=[tex] \frac{-8+/- \sqrt{0} }{32} [/tex]
x=[tex] \frac{-8+/- 0}{32} [/tex]
x=[tex] \frac{-8}{32} [/tex]
x=-1/4
