a exponent is the smaller number you will see sometimes on the top of a number or to the right of it but smaller than normal font

an exponent is a number above another number or expression, it is a quantity respresenting the power to which a given number or expression is to be raised. An expression can look like this (5+x)^2 or like this 5x^2 or 5^2. the expression can be any number such as 2,5,300,10000. hope this helps
