Most bears don't hibernate actually. But , as like any animal who hibernates , if a bear was to go into hibernation it would be because ;

-it's an adaptation that helps them conserve energy by remaining inactive, greatly slowing their metabolism and reducing their body temperature for a various period of time

- also most hibernate in order to survive long periods when food is scarcer
