The church encouraged fasting and limited the types of food that the population should and could eat. Fasting was severe and alternated with the consumption of cereals, the church discouraged the consumption of meat and any animal product such as animal milk, butter and eggs.

The church claims that it strengthened the spirit through the sacrifice of human will, in addition to honoring the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
