The plant usually dies because it does get the energy it needs from a light source

So it means that one requirement for photosynthesis is sunlight. It a plant doesn’t get sunlight it won’t make good. After a few days it will start turning yellow. If it doesn’t make food it will eventually dry up and die. Remember that this is only in green plants.
