7(2x-4) = 42

Mutiply the bracket by 7

(7)(2x)(7)(-4)= 42

14x-28= 42

Move -28 to the other side

Sign changes from -28 to 28 to get 14x by itself

14x-28+28= 42+28

14x=70

divide by 14 for both sides

14x/14= 70/14

Cross out 14 and 14, divide by 14 and then becomes x

x= 5
