How did the economic role of women change during the civil war

Women were involved in the workforce that used to be only for the men only.

Women were forced to stay at home until the men became soldiers and were often out fighting in the Civil War. Their jobs were left open. The women got the men's positions. They got the opportunity to produced artillery, and overall supplied the war effort from home. They also served as nurses during the Civil War.
