In meiosis, this happens in the latter part of the Meiosis I phase. During this phase of meiotic cell division, spindles bring out microtubules that attach themselves like strings on each pair of the chromosomes. The microtubules also assist homologous pairs of chromosomes to line up in the equator of the cell which is also called the metaphase plate.
