In his Farewell Address, Washington discusses foreign relations at length. He recommends a policy of good faith and justice towards all nations. However, he also tells Americans to avoid making permanent political alliances. He believes that such alliances are dangerous, and likely to cloud the judgement of leaders. He also believes this would most likely lead the nation to get involved in unnecessary wars.
