He led a slave rebellion in South Hampton from August 21-23, 1831. They killed more than 60 White people before the rebellion was crushed.  Turner eluded capture but was eventually caught and tried.  He and the other surviving slaves were put to death.  It was the largest slave rebellion and led to prohibition of educating Blacks.
