First you need to distribute the 4.5 onto (p+3):
4.05p + 14.4 = 4.5p + 13.5
Now you subtract 4.05p from both sides:
14.4 = .45p + 13.5
Now you subtract 13.5 from both sides:
.9 = .45p
Now divide both sides by .45:
P = 2
