if x was the price of the only one pair of socks.


lets put it like this

60+6(x) = 78


60+6(x) - 78 - 78

6(x) - 18 = 0


6(x) = 18 and then (x): being the price of only one of the pairs of shocks is $3 and for the 6 pairs he paid $18
